My Birth
I arrived into this world on the morning of Friday 28th October 2005 at
2:38am after making Mummy and Daddy wait five long days. Mummy says her waters
broke on Monday 24th October but I was obviously too comfortable and didn't want
to come out. So after Thursday 27th came around with no sign of my arrival the
doctors decided to give Mummy some drugs to help me out. They started the drip
at 4:30pm after tablets given at 8:30am earlier that day didn't work either.
Mummy was coping with the pain for three to four hours with just a Tens machine
but then the pain got worse and she needed Gas and air.
Daddy wanted to try some too as Mummy looked so good on it!
After a while Mummy was in too much pain again so the kind Midwife gave her an
injection of Pethadine but that just made Mummy feel drunk and Daddy says she
was talking a lot of rubbish at this point! Mummy then asked for an epidural
which made Daddy feel ill so the nurses sent him out for some fresh air. When he
came back Mummy was feeling much more comfortable, but could still feel her
right leg a bit. But that was fine as it helped Mummy know when to push me out.
After just 7 hours and 14 minutes of labour I arrived into the world with a
little cry. Daddy however cried a lot more while Mummy just looked a little
dazed and didn't know what to say!
First few hours
I had my eyes open from the moment I was born for the first couple of hours but
I had to go under a heat lamp for an hour or so as I was a bit cold at first.
Mummy tried to breastfeed me but I was too lazy and didn't want to work for it.
The nurses helped Mummy for a while but then I hadn't eaten anything for three
days and Mummy decided it would be best if I had a bottle of Formula milk which
I loved straight away. This helped clear my jaundice up quite quickly.
After that the Doctors let me and Mummy come home from the hospital which Daddy
was very happy about. We had been there five days in all!
We came home on Tuesday 1st November and it was a lovely sunny day. It was 3:06
pm when I saw my new home for the first time.
First few weeks
Mummy and Daddy say I am a very contented baby. At first I wanted to feed around
every 2 1/2 hours which was tiring for us all and I had bad tummy ache after
feeding which made me cry a lot. Mummy found a remedy to help me with that
though so I am a lot happier now. I still bring up quite a bit of milk between
feeds but this should get better as I get older, Mummy will be pleased about
that and so will the washing machine!
I sleep from 11pm until 8am every night! Mummy and Daddy are very pleased with
me!!
My First Christmas
I had a lovely first Christmas. Granny, Grandad and Uncle Richard came to stay
and helped look after me while Daddy cooked Xmas dinner
for everyone. Lots of people bought me some lovely presents. There were so many
they wouldn't all fit under the tree! (See Xmas 2005 pictures). It took several
hours to open them all and made dinner late! I would like to say thank you very
much to everyone who bought me a present.
Into My Nursery
I moved out of Mummy and Daddy's room and into my cot in my nursery 2 weeks ago,
21st January, and have carried on sleeping through the
night. See pictures of my room here.
Swimming
Mummy and Daddy took me swimming for the first time recently. 12th January. I
really loved it and stayed in the pool 25 minutes before getting tired.
Hip Harness
Mummy and Daddy had a call from the hospital today, 1st February, to say I need to have a hip harness fitted as my hip sockets are a bit shallow. I have to wear it for 23 hours a day for the next few weeks. It’s not uncomfortable and is made of fabric and Velcro. The nurse even gave me a bravery badge as I was so good having the harness fitted. Mummy is not sure how she is going to get my clothes on me though. It looks like I may be living in babygro’s for a while! You can see me in my harness here.
I saw the consultant again today, 1st March, for a check-up and he scanned me and said my hip sockets are looking better so I don’t have to wear the harness during the daytime and just have to put it on when I go to sleep at night.
After 14 weeks I don’t need to wear the harness anymore. I need one more X-ray in November to check everything is Ok and then I’ll be signed off for good. Yippee!
Teething
I have just cut my first tooth today, 6th May. It’s the one at the top on the right.
29th August – I have cut 3 more teeth in the last 3 weeks. Mummy thinks I have about seven teeth now.
My Time In Hospital
I went to hospital in an ambulance today, 12th May. After lunch I started crying lots, which I don’t normally do, so Mummy knew there was something wrong. Then Mummy noticed my feet had gone black and my hands were turning purple too, so she called an ambulance. I was really sick all over the ambulance lady, (but she was ok about it), and started to shake lots. When I got to hospital I had three purple spots that wouldn’t go when pressed so I was put in isolation on the children’s ward and given strong antibiotics.
I stayed in hospital for 3 days and Mummy slept on a camp bed in my room with me. The doctors were really good and found I had a bad urine infection. I need some scans to find out why I have an infection as it’s unusual in little boys my age.
The scans found I have Urine reflux, where the urine from my bladder goes back up to my kidneys when I have a wee and causes an infection. I need to take antibiotics every night for the next few years and the doctors say it will probably sort itself out as I get older. I’m just waiting on one more scan ( In the next few weeks) to see if my kidneys are scarred from the first infection.
My Last Bottle
I have been having formula milk since I came home from hospital as I was too lazy to breastfeed! I decided last week, 14th August, that I no longer want to drink milk anymore as I prefer solid food. So Mummy has been giving me foods with a high calcium content to make up for the lack of milk I’m drinking.
I'm On The Move
I haven’t been moving about very much up until today, 14th August. The health visitor says it’s due to me being immobilised for 3 months in the hip harness. Today I found I could move backwards on my hands and knees, which is fine until I back myself into a corner and have to be rescued!
I can crawl forwards today, 26th August. There’s no stopping me now! I also love to stand up although I still need help not to fall over.
My Favourite Toys
I love my soft ball which has a bell inside and my inflatable barrel. When I am tired I have a favourite flannel which I love to chew when I go to sleep.
Favourite Food
I really love yoghurt and will eat just about anything Mummy makes for me
Mummy Cooks For Me
Mummy weaned me at 16 weeks as I was so hungry I would cry for a bottle every 2 hours. At first I had half a rusk twice a day, but now Mummy makes recipes from (Annabel Karmel’s) cookbook for babies and toddlers, and so far I love them all.
